Every great CV requires a great cover letter
Cover letters are a critical part of the job application process.
Its purpose is to introduce you to the employer as a strong candidate and briefly illustrate how your skill and experience match those needed to do the job.
If you are wondering if you should include a cover letter with your CV or application, the answer is ‘yes’, unless it has been specifically stated in the application instructions that one should not be included. A well-written cover letter gives you the chance to sell yourself to the employer in a narrative format, as opposed to a formal CV, and affords you the opportunity to highlight your strongest qualifications. It will also make clear why you are interested in the job and the organisation.
A cover letter also gives you the chance to include details which would not normally found in the CV. For example, if you are applying from a different location or leaving the forces, you will be able to present a rationale for relocating.
Writing an impactful cover letter takes practice. Whilst we need to write a targeted letter which goes beyond the information in your CV, it’s important to keep it short and sharp.
All of our CV Services include the option for a professionally-written cover letter.
But don’t take our word for it
